Johnny Depp Sports Orange Tan at 2013 Grammys: Picture

Willy Wonka or Oompa-Loompa? Johnny Depp's unexpected cameo at the Feb. 10 Grammy Awards in L.A. raised a lot of questions among fans, including "Why is he here?" and "What is he saying?" (Some complained on Twitter that he mumbled through his brief speech.) But perhaps the biggest question of all was about his appearance — namely, "Why is he so orange?"

Taking the stage to introduce a performance by the band Mumford & Sons, who later won the coveted Album of the Year award, the 49-year-old actor seemed to be sporting a dark, fake tan on his face and neck. The bronzed look was set off by a pair of blue-tinted sunglasses, which he wore with a burgundy-striped shirt, a black vest, a blue scarf, and several necklaces.

Depp was on camera for less than a minute, but in the time after his brief appearance, he became a top trending topic on Twitter, as viewers flocked to the site with opinions about his unique look. Many joked that he looked like he was wearing a leftover costume from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, while others commented that he had overdone it on the self-tanner.

But there was at least one person who thought he looked and sounded great — Grammy nominee Pink, who skipped the show and watched from home instead. Soon after Depp introduced Mumford & Sons, the singer tweeted about her attraction to the man. "I'm sorry honey," she said, addressing husband Carey Hart, "but every time Johnny Depp speaks with that low voice, I can't find my clothes."
